I absolutely enjoy Steve Jobs, his story, is products, his amount of motivation during his time.  I chose the speech “How to live before you die.”  He performed this speech at a graduation commencement ceremony at Stanford University.  Who else would be a better candidate to tell us this story?  One of the most brilliant minds in technology to ever live I absolutely admire Steve Jobs and he has been a big influence in my life.   He has overcome what society deems normal in most cases.  He came from an adopted family, he did not graduate like a traditional student and he created one of greatest machines of all time.  His legacy lives on through the company he has established and the new technology that continues to grow.

How the speaker inspired the audience.
Steve Jobs captured the audience with his opening line.  He began by telling the audience that he didn’t even graduate from college.  He went on to say that the closest he has ever came to a graduation was this particular speech.  Steve also talked to the audience about his recent experience and being diagnosed with cancer.  He showed the audience in a heroic way that you cannot just give up despite what happens.  Steve inspired myself to keep pushing no matter what.  It was very clear he was a sick man but it was if he also appeared unstoppable at the same time.

Overcame adversity.
Steve has been battling adversity since he was born.  Being a child that nobody wanted, he was forced to be adopted and was picked to live with parents who attended college.  Although he went on to go to college he was an adopted child and had to overcome that situation. Steve Jobs also addressed a very serious condition he was diagnosed with, pancreatic cancer. He was forced to live with this for quite some time.  This didn’t slow down nor stop Mr. Jobs, he still began to carry out his dreams until he was able to receive surgery and make this particular speech. Most people give up once they are told they are going to die.  Steve continued strong if not stronger than before continuing to engineer one of the greatest inventions of all time.  He died a prestigious man that some would deem a miracle man.

Described a significant event.
He described how a certain college course gave him the inspiration needed to apply certain features to his first Macintosh.  Steve made a very interesting point if he would have not taken a calligraphy class computers may not have fonts today.  Its not certain but it is definitely something to think about since he was responsible for many innovations which were later copied by other computer manufacturers.

Built trust or shared knowledge through their speech.
Steve began his speech by reaching out and touching his audience through his own personal stories.  He touches people because he shares his lowest moments with the audience.  It’s hard to believe where he has come from when you see his amazing accomplishments.  He has invented some of the best gadgets and technology that has ever been created.  Still today Apple is making products that are the first of their kind.  Often copied Apple is the first for creating tablets, and touch screen cell phones.

Has this speech helped you develop a deeper understanding of the speaker or topic? How?
Steve came from a lot of difficult situations in which he were able to successfully overcome.  His attitude and constant overcoming of adversity is truly and inspiration.   Steve has been dealing with adversity his entire life its no surprise that he has accomplished such amazing things in his lifetime.
